Welcome to #PinkNicky’s Blog, your weekly dose of adventure ideas.

It’s Saturday morning, so grab your tea and toast. Here is your mission for the week:

What did I get up to this week: 2 pool swims and a sea swim followed by hot chocolate on the beach and 3 walks with my teenage son (it’s a miracle). I watched the Red Bull Film “A Land Shaped by Women” on Netflix – these ladies love the cold!

5 Ways to Inject Adventure into your week:

1. Reading

The Adventure Revolution by Belinda Kirk – This is a handbook for you to learn the tips and tricks of adventure and why it is so important to be part of the great outdoors. My favourite section is Chapter 11, “To Become Your Best You”.

2. Watch

Treks (2014). This is the story of Robyn Davidson and her 2,000 mile trek across Australia in the mid-1970s with her dog and four camels. It’s based on the book of the same title. This is a totally captivating story from beginning to end! How to Watch Robyn was on the front cover of National Geographic in May 1978 Read more about the photographer Rick Smolan who covered her trek for National Geographic

3. Listen to a Podcast

The Everyday Adventurer Nicki Bass speaks to Katie Carr, author of “Moderate Becoming Good Later”, the story of her brother Toby’s attempt to kayak in all areas of the Shipping Forecast. Toby sadly died before he finished his challenge, but as a result of the recordings, photos, and extensive notes he collated during his adventure, Katie was able to write the book for him. Having completed the book, she is now finishing his adventure, kayaking the areas of the Shipping Forecast that Toby was unable to complete.

4. Listen to Ted Talk

By Andrés Ruzo.  Andres’s grandfather told him a story with an odd detail: there is a river, deep in the Amazon, which boils as if a fire burns below it. Twelve years later, after training as a geoscientist, he set out on a journey deep into the jungle of South America in search of this boiling river Andres Ruzo

5. Join a community

Love Her Wild Community – is a UK-based non-profit women’s adventure community. LHW is an inclusive community providing opportunities, support, and funding to make the outdoors more accessible.
Check out where your local group is or sign up for one of their adventures. You can also read the results of their Outdoor Adventure survey.
