What’s Hot in Adventure this month: April

The clocks have changed, the days are longer, and adventure is calling! April is the perfect time to find your outdoor gear, set some bold intentions, and plan your nature-fuelled experiences. Whether you’re planning big trips or bite-sized micro-adventures, there’s a whole world of inspiration out there. Here’s what’s hot in the world of adventure this month—from sea swims and summit talks to book launches, epic walks, and community activism.

☀️Here are a few ideas that have caught my eye over the last few weeks.

☀️Hot of the Press April 1st to Follow: @headrightout Zoe Langley-Wathen and her husband Mike will be walking 7,300 miles around the coast of mainland Great Britain. It will take them approximately two years, and they will carry everything they need- along the way, they are aiming for a Guinness World Record! Watch out for Zoe’s book launch on April 15th.

☀️Read: @EmmaSimpson Breaking Waves. I was lucky enough to meet Emma at The Big Swim – she had just finished her book launch at Sea Lanes. This book is filled with swimming stories that will make your heart sing! You might also need your tissues!

☀️Follow @Raynor Winn: The Salt Path is coming to your local cinema in April. I loved this book – I picked it up and read it cover to cover in one go! It’s an epic story of love, homelessness, resilience and nature. It is beautifully written. I expect the path they followed will be super busy this summer!

☀️Follow @HardestGeezer: He is running across New Zealand and is currently on day 18. Last year run the entire length of Africa!

☀️Watch: MountainsonStage UK Tour kicks off at the end of April. Beautiful films from the mountains-sit back and be inspired!

☀️Visit: National Trust: Search places to see blossom – Be quick the blossoms don’t last long.

☀️Travel: Black Girls Hike – UK: Have places on their trips to Africa and Costa Rica Trips this summer.

☀️Travel: Gutsy Girls – Have places on their summer trips to Croatia and Sardinia

☀️Research: Adventure MindNEW! The Benefits of Adventure for Children A clear, concise summary of evidence written by leading #AdventureMind academics and practitioners for use by parents/carers, educators, therapists and policy makers. This makes interesting reading backed by academic research!

☀️ Become an Activist: Save the Date: Saturday, May 17th for the National @SurfersAgainstSewage Paddle Out Protest – this is hot of the press, more information will follow. This is a UK-wide protest against sewage pollution. I will be taking part in the Brighton! Come and say hello! You might like this Blog: 9 Ways to Become an Activist

☀️Festival: Arran Mountain Festival, Arran, Scotland Date: 16-19 May. The Isle of Arran Mountain Festival is Scotland’s premier hillwalking and mountaineering festival and an opportunity to explore the beautiful Isle of Arran. Top Tip: Be super organised with your travel!

☀️Plan your Micro Adventures with: @al_humphreys This has always been an idea that I love “micro-adventures” It’s local, and you can keep it simple: What can you do near you? Where can you go that is new to you? With research and creativity, you could have your first April adventure this weekend.

☀️Sign up for a challenge Mental Health Awareness Week: 14-18th May: The theme for 2025 is ‘Community’, which aims to celebrate the power and importance of community. Pick a challenge and join in or run an activity to support this national campaign.
