Beanie Hat Adventures

Making the most of each day with sunrise, sunset hikes, cold water swimming and being amongst nature. Travel, extreme Adrenalin sports. My experiences growing up have made me an incredibly strong, resilient, and a go lucky positive person who has nothing but love for others and life. I was born in the UK and grew up in a very strict Islamic environment, my dream was to have freedom. The closest to freedom I got was sitting outside with my late mummy and her best friend and learning to knit (it’s cool now but not back in the day) when all I ever wanted to do was stick a pair of trainers on, fill a rucksack with sweets and explore. Knitting was an important skill I needed for when I was being vetted for an arranged marriage (some funny stories there). There was a very frustrated little tom boy Yasmin dying to get out and live life to the full and explore. Slowly but surely, I started to cross boundaries at home and faced the consequences from my two siblings each time I returned home after a night out. Being hit was the norm (siblings should have been professional boxers) and it was so worth it, as I was having the time of my life going out with my friends Cut a long story short, as I was being vetted in the UK for an arranged marriage in my early 20’s, my darling late father (who was the only one on my side) gave some great words of advice. If I married in the UK, I would leave and live with in-laws almost immediately. If I married in Pakistan, I didn’t necessarily have to stay and could take my time deciding where to live, hence I could still have a little freedom before I fully settled. I went for the latter option. I needed to choose an option to keep my mum happy and more importantly the Asian community off my parents back. The latter was the main cause to my family being so strict and they made our life hell on earth. Arranged marriage at 22 – A love story which turned into a nightmare. Being raped on your wedding night was not what I dreamed of and having a back street abortion without any medical intervention wasn’t something I ever thought I would have to go through. After playing the game with my now ex-husband and his horrid family, I was finally allowed to return back to the UK with my family having no idea about the ordeal I had been through.

Why is the outdoors important to you?

Being brought up in a very strict Muslim environment I was never allowed to explore. Now I can and I’m making up for lost time!!!!

Why do you want to be involved?

To tell my story which I know many women are experiencing right now. To encourage and motivate others to explore and be free
