Mad cycling trips across the world

Cycling for women vs cancer. My first trip was to Tanzania where I met some amazing women all raising money for women’s cancers. It was scary doing a ride not knowing anyone but now I have friends for life and have cycled Costa Rica, Brazil, Kenya, and soon to do Vietnam and Cambodia. These rides are not a holiday at all and generally mean you are cycling 450km in hot, humid conditions. It’s tough and dangerous but it wouldn’t be a challenge if it wasn’t. There are years and laughter along the way and a huge amount of camaraderie to get you through. Maybe a glass or two of wine at the end of the day!!

Why is the outdoors important to you?

I have had cancer and I want to give back something to all the amazing people that helped me along the way. The rides are not only a personal challenge but are there to raise awareness of women’s cancer out in the communities in the uk and the countries we ride through. Imagine being in Tanzania and giving the locals a demo of how a cervical smear is done!!!

Why do you want to be involved?

I want to be involved to help show ladies that you can do adventurous things and make a difference at the same time. You can choose to carry on your lives or you can choose to put yourself out there and make a difference. You don’t need to be fit to start with and it can be daunting but the sense of achievement is second to none once you get over the finish line
