Somerset to Cornwall... My Way

With my husband away for six weeks over my birthday, I purchased one ticket to see Raynor Winn and Gigspanner perform at the Carnglaze Caverns in St. Neot, Cornwall. Initially, I planned to drive my campervan the 120 miles there, stay overnight and drive home again, but the gnawing feeling of needing to walk there became too much to bear. After just two days of planning, I faced solo wild camping, biblical rain, thunderstorms, navigating Dartmoor, two river crossings and knee-deep bogs. I returned having learnt how to herd cows, regained my confidence, embraced a stack of new friends, gained a wedding invitation AND a hug from Raynor Winn after the most spectacular opening night performance of Saltlines. These nine days were profoundly wonderful, tough, and exhausting, but I’m BACK and feeling stronger than ever!

Why is the outdoors important to you?

Through my social media, podcast, blog, and book-to-be, I work hard to encourage midlife and older women to step out of their comfort zones in the outdoors, yet despite this, things have changed for me during perimenopause; my adventure confidence had floundered, and my imposter syndrome returned. It must be ten years since my last solo trip, and I could feel my adventure independence slipping away, so revisiting the wonder in my ability to wild camp solo again and handle my fear of crossing rivers has been transformative.

Why do you want to be involved?

I thrive on sharing stories, common ground, and connections with like-minded women. These stories will help to boost HeadRightOut again, enabling me to empower other women who need to HeadRightOut and rebuild their own resilience.
