Mount Toubkal

I took on the challenge of hiking up Mount Toubkal in the Atlas mountain range in Morocco. At 4,167 m (13,671 ft) Toubkal is the highest peak in Morocco. I didn’t make the final ascent on the last day, it beat me! It was gruelling, not just the walking at altitude above the tree line, but the accommodation and the harshness of the challenge. Not for the faint hearted!

Why is the outdoors important to you?

My love of hiking and the great outdoors led me to the challenge. I wanted the challenge of a mountain. I wanted to step out of my comfort and be uncomfortable in my surroundings because generally day to day is very comfortable for me and I like to be reminded that life can be hard and have its challenges.

Why do you want to be involved?

It sounds like a great initiative and I love these types of events where unknown people come together and share a common goal. I’m a humanist – as opposed to say a feminist and love collaborations between people of different background, heritage, ages etc. I know this event is aimed at all women, I just love the idea of people coming together and working together and making something happen.
