Nurturing Nature After Nurturing a Baby

My adventure came in the shape of a new chapter of my life: a physical move from Dorset to Sussex; a practical move re-orientating my career path and a mental move with my evolving identity combining motherhood and my passion to take action for nature. Since moving to Eastbourne, I have loved getting out on my paddleboard watching kingfishers dart down the river; been inspired to join my local sea swimming group yet appalled by having to plunge in poo; and have been amazed at all the groups inspiring action for the environment. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to create an online community to appreciate nature, investigate the science and solutions for environmental recovery and raise money (through circular-economy funky clothing design) to allow local groups to take action for the environment. Introducing wildlifestyle.co.uk- it’s in its infancy but already providing me so much joy reading up, creating content & connecting with likeminded, people. Its also a brilliant motivator for my daughter, supportive husband and I to do regular beach cleans, wildflower meadow creation and tree planting days- our own mini adventures!

Why is the outdoors important to you?

As an environmental scientist, National Geographic Explorer and someone who (as many) experiences bouts of eco-anxiety, I thought it was fundamental to do what I could to bring about change. Balancing my desire to be around as much as possible for my daughter and hoping to be an inspiration to her, I have found this adventure to be flexible, purposeful and above all, fun!

Why do you want to be involved?

I would love to be involved in the campaign because I think it is so important for women to celebrate themselves and to build confidence to go out into the world being their brightest and most impactful selves. Personally, this would be an excellent opportunity to connect with others who are passionate about the outdoors and driven to take action for our incredible planet.
