Walked from Home to Rome and met Pope Francis!

I walked from my own front door in Glasgow to Rome. This was a huge journey, over 2000 miles, across 6 countries, encountering all types of weather, hills and terrain. I pulled a trailer rather than carry a rucksack and I had a genuine fear of encountering the Alps. This is not just a story about my walk to Rome, at its very heart it’s a story about the kindness of humanity – everyone I met was kind! I had the ultimate surprise of meeting Pope Francis when I got to Rome!

Why is the outdoors important to you?

I was raising funds for Dementia UK and Mary’s Meals in memory of my parents. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do the walk too.

Why do you want to be involved?

I want to share the stories of incredible kindness that I was offered all throughout my journey. Also to show that a solo, 54 year old woman can achieve such challenge and that we are much more capable that we give ourselves credit for.
