LA Confidential: Finding Joy in the City of Angels

I was headed to San Diego for Social Media Marketing World, a conference I’ve wanted to attend for about the last seven years. One of my clients in the US pointed out it was a long way to come from the UK just for five days to attend that. Speaking to a friend in travel, she suggested adding on a few days in LA which also meant I could visit another client. Once it was booked, I put my adventurer hat on and planned some things that were on my dream list but I’d never thought I’d do. So I found myself soaring on a broomstick on the Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios, taking an ebike ride (not ridden a bike for 40 years!) along the LA coastline and horseriding in the Hollywood hills by the sign, with LA spread out below. I can only describe these adventures as utterly joyful, rediscovering an emotion and side of me I haven’t felt for years. I lost my mum 20 years ago this year and shortly after she died, had my wonderful daughter. Losing my mum and post natal depression had a huge impact on me and this trip I feel finally helped me look at things differently and find me again.

Why is the outdoors important to you?

This trip was the furthest I’ve been and the longest I’ve been away by myself, I wanted to do something for me that pushed me outside my normal life and my comfort zone. I could have just gone to the conference I was booked to attend in San Diego but decided to be bold, put my adventurer hat on and explore LA as well!

Why do you want to be involved?

It sounds like it would a totally different photoshoot to ones I’ve done for business in the past, I don’t like photoshoots but I’m up for trying anything this year and doing things differently so this would be an amazing opportunity to do that and push outside my comfort zone again!
