Learning to live a life full of adventure post baby, arthritic & joint pain and diagnosis of Adenomyosis

After having Noah 6 years ago, I lost my sense of identity. I was a career driven vet nurse. I came back from Maternity leave to find the job as a head nurse that I was employed as was gone. I was promised role back and within a week I was told they didn’t need a part time head nurse. My sense of identity was even more lost, I was just a tired, feeding machine to a baby. I then struggled to walk and move so underwent investigations over a few years to find I had early-onset arthritis and dehydrated discs. The pain was debilitating and I remember having to hold my baby and slide down the stairs as I couldn’t walk. We were trying for a 2nd baby for a few years after that and it never happened and we again underwent investigations to find I have adenomyosis which could have contributed to the back pain so a coil was put in. So since then, my adventure has been trying to live my life to the fullest and basically be a yes person. Since then to find peace and sort my mental health I started wild swimming which then lead to meeting groups of adventurous women. I then started paddleboarding and am now a ShePaddles ambassador for Paddles UK. I run the biggest online Paddlesports groups affiliated with Paddle UK /British Canoeing in the UK and have started Wingfoiling and started attending women only winging events. So my adventures have all been water-related and I’m thriving in this environment. I’ve met some adventurous ladies along the way and now we go on girls weekends to chase waterfalls!

Why is the outdoors important to you?

It was important to find myself. To make sure that even though I lost my sense of self I found a new me and now my outlook on life is very different. I found my sense of self and just to make sure I live the best life possible.

Why do you want to be involved?

Just to continue my ethos of living best lives and showing women that they can do it too! It was my project plan as a ShePaddles ambassador to give women confidence on the water and I want to continue pushing women to be the best versions of themselves to show anyone they can do it too!
