South West Coastal Walk and Surfing

Headed to Devon for to walk Ilfracombe- Woolacombe SW Coastal Path followed by a surf retreat, based on the NHS 5 steps to wellbeing, provided by The Curtis Palmer Programme and Op Poseidon. I started the weekend with a 7.5 mile Coastal Walk with a friend, where we enjoyed the scenery, put the world right, catching up and chatting about future plans. Arrived at Saunton Sands, to meet the rest of the guys/girls joining us for the weekend, communal cooking of dinner to break the ice and connect. Saturday started with a C25K beach run, followed by surf lessons on the stunning beach at Saunton Beach, learning to surf and catching waves is a perfect way to switch off from ‘life’ can’t help but be in the moment and immerse yourself in the activity. Unfortunately I had a little accident and broke my foot, but the new friends I’d made rallied around, looked after me got me the medical treatment I needed. Sadly the rest of the weekend plans of finishing off with a 15 mile run from Woolacombe to Braunton have temporarily gone on hold for now, but I aim to complete the SW Coast path section by section once I’m mended

Why is the outdoors important to you?

Time away from home life, I work full time and have 3 children and I know how valuable time away, with like-minded people, exploring, learning new things is so important to my mental wellbeing. This in turnakes me appreciate ‘normal life’ and gives me something to look forward to when life gets challenging

Why do you want to be involved?

I’d love to share my adventures, inspire other women to get out there and be more adventuous. Time exploring the outdoors, connecting to nature and being in the moment is good for the soul.
