It is time to make your adventure happen; I have a mission for you, once you have read the blog; I would like you to post your adventure ideas in the comment box. Tell us your dreams and how you will make them come alive?
Life is full of opportunities for adventure, but all too often, we let them slip through our fingers due to lack of resources, fear, or uncertainty.
However, with a little courage, determination, and planning, you can turn your dreams of adventure into reality.
Whether it’s trekking through the Amazon rainforest, summiting a majestic peak, or embarking on a day hike, the first step is deciding to pick an adventure and then working out how to make it happen.
10 Steps to Making Your Adventure Happen:

Define Your Dream Adventure: What have you always wanted to do?
Take some time to reflect on what kind of adventure would inspire you. Is it exploring a remote wilderness, immersing yourself in a different culture, or pushing your physical limits? Or would you like to take part in a charity event?

Set Clear Goals: Be realistic – what plans are already in the diary?
Once you’ve identified your dream adventure, break it down into smaller, goals. Whether it’s saving a certain amount of money, acquiring necessary skills, or researching potential destinations, setting clear goals will keep you focused and motivated. When I signed up to run a half-marathon in Greenland. I had an 18-month lead-in, I pinned a calendar to the wall and worked out a training schedule starting with Couch to 5k and then a half-marathon training program followed by extreme cold training with The Environmental Extremes Lab at The University of Sussex.
Research and Plan: Deep dive into your adventure, to find a starting point.
Research destinations, logistics, permits, equipment, and any other relevant details. Create a detailed plan that outlines the steps you need to take to make your adventure a reality. Handy Tips use Podcasts and Documentaries as part of your research.

Budget Wisely: A long term budget is the key!
Adventures will come with a price tag, but with budgeting and planning, you can make it happen within your means. Calculate the costs associated with your adventure, including transportation, accommodation, gear, and any other expenses, and create a realistic budget. Don’t forget to include Insurance and inoculations expenses. My injections for Peru cost me an unexpected £300!
Save and Invest: Open you adventure account today.
If your dream adventure requires significant financial investment, start saving and investing early. Set up a dedicated savings account, and consider alternative sources of income or funding, such as crowdfunding or sponsorships. For Big adventures give yourself a year plus to help spread the finances.

Don’t let No’s stop you: Building resilience, Part 1
When planning to make your adventures happen, you will come across lots of No’s. My No’s could have stopped me from going on my most recent adventure in Sweden.
- Have you ever lived off-grid? No
- Have you ever been camping in minus 10? No
- Are you fit enough to cross-country ski for 5 hours per day every day for a week? No (a 3-month fitness schedule was put into place)
- Would you like to go and live in a remote forest and live-off grid for one week? YES PLEASE
When planning adventures No’s will come up all the time. Don’t be afraid to acknowledge the No’s, face them head on and say YES!! and make your adventure happen.

Build a Support Network: Find your cheerleaders.
Surround yourself with supportive friends, family members, and fellow adventurers who share your passion for exploration. Big organised events have Facebook groups or What’s App groups that you can join. You will find a wealth of information here. Or join Adventure Groups aimed at women: Love her Wild, Black Girls Hike, Adventure Queens, or Muslim Hikers.
Overcome Obstacles: Building Resilience, Part 2
As you work towards making your adventure happen, you will encounter obstacles and setbacks along the way. Whether it’s logistical challenges, self-doubt, or unforeseen circumstances, don’t let them deter you from your goal. I always leave extra weeks in my training for the many curveballs that have come my way over the years which have included sick kids, Grandma’s new knee, conked-out car, and a nasty bought of flu.
Take Action: Take one step today!
Stop waiting for the perfect moment or the right conditions to begin your adventure. Take the first step today, whether it’s booking a plane ticket, signing up for a course, or committing to a training regimen. Action breeds momentum and brings you one step closer to making things happen. Look at your next 12 months and work out the best dates for you to travel. This year I had to plan my adventures around my families activities: GCSEs, a knee operation, and building work.

Embrace the Journey:
Finally, remember that the journey is just as important as the destination. Embrace the ups and downs, the challenges and triumphs, and the unexpected twists and turns along the way. I love planning and researching, I always start with a large map and a wall calendar. I then add photos and ideas to the wall as a visual daily reminder to just keep on going!
