Why We Need Volunteers
The Big Swim has grown into one of the most joyful and vibrant sea-swim events in the UK. With more than 1,000 swimmers expected in 2026, volunteers are essential to keeping the event safe, welcoming, and unforgettable.
Volunteers are the smiling faces behind the scenes — helping swimmers feel supported, sharing stories, and capturing the magic of the day.

Volunteer Roles
We have a range of ways volunteers can get involved — whether you want to support online in the lead-up to the event or help on the beach on the day itself:

Bloggers – write blogs in the run-up to the event or afterwards to showcase why you joined in, share your own journey, or cover themes such as ocean care, women in sport, and accessibility.

Meeters & Greeters – be the first friendly face swimmers see on the beach, welcoming them, answering questions, and helping create a warm, inclusive atmosphere.

Registration Team – help run the registration area, check swimmers in, and keep the process flowing smoothly. This is a super-busy role and best suited to people who have experience in customer service, events, or front-of-house.

Social Media Support – get involved in our 7-week countdown campaign by sharing, commenting, and creating posts in the run-up to the event, as well as helping boost visibility on the day.

On-the-Day Social Media Team – run a live timeline from the beach, capturing photos, videos, quotes, and stories to share the unique energy of the event as it unfolds.

Things to Remember
The Big Swim is an outdoor event — which means anything can happen! You never know what weather we’ll get, so come prepared for sunshine, rain, and wind.
If the weather is too severe, the event will be cancelled and moved to the back-up date: Saturday 25th April.
On the day, the beach is full to bursting with people — it’s a beautiful kind of organised chaos. This is not a corporate, perfectly curated event. The Big Swim has its own unique energy: joyful, raw, real, and unforgettable.
As a volunteer, the most important thing is to go with the flow, embrace the buzz, and enjoy the magic of hundreds of women coming together to celebrate the sea.
