The #makingwaves competition will be back in spring 2025
Who are we looking for:
We are looking for 10 winning women to join our empowering photography experience in June.
We’re on the hunt for a diverse bunch of women who have overcome challenges in their life and infuse their days with real passion and purpose.
You might be emerging from the baby years, wondering who on earth you are, navigating the waters of empty nesting, wrestling with the changes of menopause, recovering after illness, or seeking a fresh start after a rough ride.
Perhaps you’ve yet to take time back for yourself and this gathering is the moment that will kick-start the process.
If you can relate to any of the above, tell us the story of how you are using adventure and exploration to fuel self-discovery and propel yourself forward.
Adventure does not have to involve flying to far-flung places (although it can do!) One woman’s molehill may be another woman’s mountain. It’s all about how the experience nudges us out of our comfort zone and enables us to grow. That’s the exciting part.

Perhaps you’ve started ‘Mudlarking’ on our coast? Climbing trees? Fundraising for great causes? Foraging or Forest Bathing?
However big or small, whatever your adventure, we want to hear your story!
when and where?
Photoshoot: Saturday 8th June, 12-5pm
Contingency photoshoot if the weather is bad on 8th June: Saturday 15th June, 12-5pm
Location: Dungeness, Kent
You will be met by your host Nicky Chisholm PinkNicky and Charlotte from The Outdoor Studio.
You will have some relaxed and natural portraits taken, and you’ll also take part in some group photographs, intended to capture the camaraderie and shenanigans of the day.
It will be an immersive day, designed to encourage bonding and mutual support.
The photoshoot Itinerary
12 – 12.30: Meet at Dungeness beach for a team welcome and briefing.
12.30 – 4: Our photographer will lead us to two separate locations
(shore-based and sea-based) where photographs will be taken.
Each winner will have the photographer’s undivided attention for
approximately 15 minutes each.
The group shots will last approximately 20 minutes.
We aim to have a firepit on the beach (weather dependent) where you can wrap up in your blankets and cook marshmellows.
4 – 5pm: We will all head to the pub for fish n’ chips and a pint (or a drink of your choice.) This is paid for by yourself.
About the photographer...
Charlotte Broster is the photographer behind The Outdoor Studio. A professional photographer for 14 years, she has in recent years developed a niche of photographing women outdoors.
In addition to creating natural portraits, she aims to give her clients a therapeutic and memorable experience, or in other words, a bloody good time.
Charlotte’s work has gravitated to the sea, an environment which draws you out of your comfort zone and shows you that you are far braver and bolder than you realised..
At the shoot, you will daringly dip your feet in the waves and feel the euphoria that is triggered by the cold water. The sea is a wild but healing place! There among the swell of the waves and the vast sky, you can reconnect with yourself and your purpose for this year and beyond.

The competition launches: Tuesday 30th April, 9 AM and is open for 4 weeks
The competition closes on: Friday 24th May, 5pm
Winners announced: Thursday 30th May
Judges: PinkNicky and The Outdoor Studio will pick the 10 winners.
Photoshoot: Saturday 8th June, 12-5pm

Please make sure you can make both dates
Anybody in the UK can enter the competition but you must be active on social media and agree to actively support the competition posts.
You must be willing to share your adventure story with the world.

The photos will become part of a social media campaign with PinkNicky and The Outdoor Studio to encourage more women into adventures, as a way of navigating uncertain times and celebrating a new-found freedom.
Please note that ALL entries to the competition will be published on our Gallery.
Reminder: only 10 submissions will be invited to attend the photo shoot.
Disabled/Wheelchair access: We can accommodate you by tailoring the photoshoot. Let us know what you need before the shoot.
All winners will be emailed further details: including address, what to wear and local accommodation details
WINNERS’ PHOTOGRAPHS
Each winner will be able to choose their favourite 2 photos from a gallery made available around 2 weeks after the event. This includes 1 individual portrait and 1 group photo.
Charlotte will make all the photos available for purchase at a competitive rate, so rest assured, if you want more, you can have more!
